Domus Construction, Glenside PA

Domus Construction was bursting at the seams in their current offices occupied since 1976. Domus purchased a new site with an existing 1950’s style building that had most recently been a pharmacy and added an addition to become their new corporate offices. Being general contractors themselves they wanted to showcase their projects throughout the space to display their diversity and capabilities to new clients. The challenge as a designer was marrying the opinions and desires of four very different partners so that they can all be proud! They all agreed on wanting a warm sunlit space which we achieved with the various rich woods, natural materials and multiple sky lights to flood the corridors with natural light. It was a team collaboration and their contrasting ideas were meshed in a positive way through design.

I incorporated some of the mid-century furnishing that complimented the 50’s style architecture of the existing structure but with a twist of contemporary lighting and bold colors to complement their logo. Their work is intertwined with Philadelphia’s rich architectural history which we gave a strong nod to the Philadelphia city skyline crafted in wood and hand painted by Meg Sumerdel from the Philly Mural Arts program.
